Rested Heart

The official blog of Eiman Abdelmoneim.

The "rested heart" is the heart's search for peace and tranquility. By sharing here I hope to do just that and when others share here via their comments, the effect is magnified.

My daughter was diagnosed in December 2010 with cancer (Wilm's tumor) that has turned my life upside down.

Learning from Steve Job’s Death (not His Life)

Finding out he died was a total surprise. I was on my wife’s MacBook and opened Safari. “Oh my God, he died” I said out loud when his picture with the dates underneath rendered itself as the Apple web page loaded.

Since that moment, like many, I have read and watched the tributes of the life he lived and what he was able to accomplish in his life.

But the biggest lesson for me isn’t his life but his death.

The news reports say that Steve Jobs passed away today surrounded by his loved ones. And I can’t help but ask myself that for all he accomplished - the companies he formed, the products he launched, the technologies he created that brought so much joy to the world, what really mattered to him these last days?

I would venture to guess that the only thing that mattered to him were those loved ones surrounding him.

That is why when you visit the cemetery and read the tombstones, they say “our dear father”, “beloved son”, “mother of three” not “CEO”, not “Chairman and Founder”, not “technology visionary”.

When it is all said and done, it is the relationships that matter.

Thank you Steve for reminding me of this. May you rest in peace and may your loved ones find peace in the grief they feel
